Bin gerade vom Richmond Olympic Oval wiedergekommen, dem Eisschnelllauf-Stadion, das für die Spiele gebaut wurde. Dort konnte man heute das letzte mal Schlittschuh laufen, bevor die Halle für die olympischen Vorbereitungen geschlossen wird. Ich stand heute also sozusagen auf olympischem Eis ;-)Im Olympic Oval werden die Speed Skating Events ausgetragen: 500 m, 1.000 m, 1.500 m, 3.000 m, 5.000 m sowie die Team-Verfolgung der Männer und Frauen und für Männer gibt's dazu noch die 10.000 m. Eine Runde sind wie beim Leichtathletik 400 m. Bin heute mal eine Runde so schnell gefahren wie ich konnte und ich muss sagen, das ging schon ganz schön an die Substanz. Da kann ich mir gut vorstellen, warum die Speed Skater immer so außer Atem sind nach nem Rennen ;-)
Ganz interessant finde ich auch, wie die Stadion nach den Olympischen Winterspielen genutzt wird:
"Post-Games, the Oval’s main activity area will be transformed into three Zones: the Ice Zone, holding two international-size ice sheets; the Court Zone, with eight gymnasiums; and the Track Zone, with a 200-metre running track and 60-metre sprint track. The Post-Games configuration also allows for possible reactivation of the 400-metre speed skating track as desired. Other permanent features include community wellness services and programming, sports medicine and sciences, a major fitness centre, community activity areas and restaurant and retail space."
